Holiday meeting

Sharon graciously hosted our "holiday meeting".

The group was okay with our book "The Match" by Harlan Coben.  Some felt it was a bit convoluted in reaching the identity of Wilde's mother.  There were many characters of which to keep track and not lose sense of the story.  From that we embarked on a discussion on DNA testing to know who our ancestors might be.

The gift exchange was fun but no one stole another's choice.

October Meeting

We had a wonderful meeting with our "author of the month" Michele Tracy Berger joining us.

Dolly did a wonderful job as hostess as always!

Daisy joined in as well....

Great discussion, touching on race, society and sisterhood. A big "Thumbs Up" to Michele and her writing style!

It was a treat for the group to get a few questions answered about the actual mechanics of writing.

Be sure to click on the link to the right to see the other books we're reading.  (Choose the web version at the bottom of the page to see this link)

The next meeting will be at Sharon's house - a holiday gathering in early December.  We'll edit this page on the exact date later.  Bring  a small gift to share for the "dirty Santa" gift exchange.

Next month's book will be The Match by Harlan Cobin.

And we'll be on the look out for Michele's new book scheduled for March publication.

September Meeting

We all enjoyed meeting at Linda's new house in Chatham Park!

Yummy snacks too. Thanks for hosting, Linda!

We did get around to discussing this month's read - the Afghan woman's tale The Pearl That Broke It's Shell.  The consistent sentiment about the book was both sadness and anger about the horrible treatment the Afghan woman live with.

Dolly has volunteered to host the October meeting - and the author of the book will join us!

The book is Reenu-Yu by Michelle Tracy Berger.

We usually don't meet in November since it interferes with Thanksgiving travel.   Our "Holiday" meeting will be the first few weeks in December - Sharon will host and that exact date is TBD.  Since we have skipped Linda's book choice from the September meeting - she has chosen Midwives by Chris Bohjalian for the December book to read.

And for those of you at the meeting- Karen was late because of a photo-shoot of the new HondaJet at the Asheboro Airport.  Here is a photo of that cool plane!

Check out the "other books" link at the left for some reading ideas.

And for those of you that haven't played the simple word games Wordle or Quordle - here are links.  The games are free, require no registration and only take a minute or two.  If you like word structure, you'll like these games!  You just are guessing what the 5 letter word is for the day.

July Meeting

Lindy hosted the meeting - we discussed “The Stranger in the Lifeboat” by Mitch Albom. We all liked it.

Lindy made a delicious blueberry pie, along with a yummy asian peanut dressing and carrots. We enjoyed a fabulous Pinot Noir and a Chenin Blanc.

We decided to not have a meeting in August. Many members are traveling next month.  Our next book will be The Pearl That Broke Its Shell by Nadia Hashimi.
The book is about women in Afghanistan (both past and present) . It was recommended to Lindy by a friend in Virginia Beach.

New member Linda will host book club in September.

Be sure to follow the link to the other interesting books read by the members this past month.

June Meeting

A last minute change of venue from Lindy's house to Jean's house.  Lindy is scheduled for shoulder surgery tomorrow so Jean graciously volunteered to host again.

After a normal bit of chatting/catching up, this month's book - All the Ways We Said Goodbye - was discussed.  All who read it gave it a "thumbs up".  It was unique in that it was a story told by three different authors, one author for each of the three main characters.  Good discussion!

Next month's book is Mitch Albom's The Stranger in the Lifeboat and Lindy will be hosting on July 26th.

Many thanks again to Jean - she invited all of us to share in her and John's garden surplus.  So sweet!

Be sure to check out the "List of other books we've read" tab (at the right on a laptop/in the drop down menu on a phone) as there were quite a few interesting sounding books this month.

April and May Meetings

So sorry for the gap in blog posts.

APRIL MEETING

April Meeting was at Jean's house.

Everyone really liked the book The Midnight Library and we had lots of deep discussion on things we would go back and change in our lives if we ended up in the midnight library!

The book for Next months book club May 24 book is My Name is Lucy Barton by Elizabeth Strout and Bonnie will host.

A couple of photos -

MAY MEETING:

Thanks Bonnie for hosting!

We welcome a new member, Linda Lewis, who is a retired high school librarian originally from Southwestern Virginia.  She now lives in the new Chatham Park.

Some of us enjoyed "My Name is Lucy Barton."  We decided the story was mostly regarding relationships, especially the mother/daughter one.

The next book is "All the Ways We Said Goodbye" by Beatriz Williams.  Lindy will be hosting the next meeting on June 28.

Be sure to check out the list of other books we're reading on the right for ideas for your next book.

March Meeting

We met at Dolly's home and opted to meet out on her deck.  She has a new puppy who is quite friskey.   Four of us read "The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell."  It was a good read concerning how to handle a bully and being treated by your schoolmates as too strange because you have red eyes (a form albinism).

Dolly's son took this nice photo!

Dolly chose "The Midnight Library" by Matt Haig.  The April 26 meeting will be hosted by Jean.

February Meeting

Bonnie hosted as Jean wasn't feeling up to it after her hip surgery.  Best wishes to Jean and hope to see her soon!

There were 4 of us in attendance.  We discussed "What Rose Forgot" by Nevada Barr which was a departure from Barr's "who dunnits" with Anna Pigeon in National Parks.

Next meeting will be March 22nd - location to be determined so volunteer if you feel like it and hope Covid will be on it's way out by then!
