December Meeting

What a fun meeting!!!  Carol went "all out" and had a fabulous table set for us -

Lots of fun goodies to munch on!!

Baked Brie....yum!!!!

A little social before getting down to "business"!

Since the hostess always chooses the next book - Carol chose a "classic" this time - The Grapes of Wrath...  the consensus was that no one had read the book in 20 years....so it will be good to re-visit with John Steinbeck!

Then we moved on to the other "business"!!!  Our "Dirty Santa" game....

This year, Carol came up with a fun twist - she called it "Dutch Dirty Santa".   For each turn, you rolled a large, yellow die.....

And whatever number you rolled - you followed these directions:

It was a really neat twist - lots of fun and laughs!

Lots of gifts changed hands (many changed hands more than once!)

And we'll leave you with the result of rolling a "number 5"......

P.S.

October Meeting

What a great group!!!  Fantastic turnout - 12 ladies in attendance!

Fun meeting with lots of discussion.....some about the book, some about politics!

There were a few naysayers, but the general consensus was positive for Colleen McCullough's Bittersweet.

Next month's book is "A Walk Across the Sun" by Corban Addison.   It's available in Kindle or book form.

Remember we won't meet on our regularly scheduled date in November because of the Thanksgiving holidays.  The next meeting will  be at Carol's house - Tuesday, December 9th.  This will be our "Christmas Party" -  so be sure to bring a small, fun gift to share in our "dirty Santa" exchange.  Try to limit the gift to $10-15.  We'll all draw numbers and take turns choosing a gift or "stealing" a gift from someone else!
Good fun!

And the gang's all here!!!  Wonderful ladies!  Missed you  guys that weren't able to attend.

Luan's pick for next month -  Bittersweet by Colleen McCullough - (same author as The Thornbirds!)
Next meeting at Karen's house.

August Meeting

Great meeting tonight!!!!

We met at Claire's house with the author of this month's book - local author Doug Lorie.  We had a lengthy discussion of his book Acaju.  Great answers to in-depth questions about his writing style and thought process while writing the book.   We adjourned from Claire's lovely porch to see some of Doug's photos from Brazil and some beautiful yerba mahtay gourds.

Doug brought some cashew seeds....several of us took one.  Not an every-day item for sure!  We'll see if we can grow them in Pittsboro!    (I put the spoon in the photo just to show the size).

Next month's book is  Lessons I Learned from Nick Nack by Padgett Gerler (another fairly local author).  She will be attending next month's meeting at Luan's house! (the Kindle book is only $1.99 on Amazon!)

Be sure to check the link to the right for other books our members have been reading!

And for a fun really easy read, try Padgett's husband's book How the Naked Ape Got to the Land of Nod by Edwin Gerler for just 99 cents on Amazon.  Very clever!

June Book Club Meeting

Nice turnout this month at Lindy's house!  We welcomed our newest member Katherine - she'll fit in just fine!

We had a little wine and a wonderful beer-based spice cake of Lindy's own creation.  Very Yummy!  Also some fresh cucumbers and Asian dip that were a nice touch.  Some sampled her fresh cucumber infused water also - very refreshing!  We also got to see some photos from some of Luan's recent life-events - Congratulations, Luan!

MJ will host the next meeting at John's Pizza in Pittsboro -  Lindy has chosen The Original Last Wife by Dorothea Benton Frank as our July read.

So we'll see you there!  And be sure to check the "Interesting  Books" link to the right  for reading  ideas.

May Book Club Meeting

Vilma was a wonderful hostess!  Yummy brie, sweet fig spread and a divine chocolate tort (from Whole Foods, she says!) and the complementary wines, of course!

OK, so I really need to bring a real camera instead of my ipad next time since the photos are less-than-great.... but you get the idea.....

Before we got started, Vilma was discussing her decision making process for an accent wall.  She's trying to tie the accent wall in with the rock wall on the opposite wall, hence the different colors painted temporarily on the wall.

I think the consensus is that she's going to have to decide by herself!

Yummy treats overlooking her wooded back yard.

A really good discussion of How Evan Broke His Head and Other Secrets....not well-liked, but lot's to discuss anyway.  And lots of discussion of "what else we're reading" too - click the link to those titles!

Next month at Lindys!  Hope to see a couple of new members and the ones we missed this month!

April Book Club Meeting

Claire hosted a cozy meeting on her fabulous screened in porch. We had a lively discussion of our book this month - An Inconvenient Wife. Collectively, the group liked the book and we all agreed that it is better to be a woman in this century!!

(Sorry, my camera doesn't take good low-light photos!)

Claire, as usual, put on some nice goodies for us to enjoy!

In case you're not on Facebook, here are the photos of Claire's grandkids helping her clean up earlier today!  So sweet!

Next month should be interesting also - we are reading  How Evan Broke His Head and Other Secrets Lessons  by Garth Stein.  This is the same author who wrote the Art of Racing in the Rain.

Be sure to click the link to the right for the list of books that we're all reading!

March Meeting

Great get-together for our March meeting.  Sorry Claire missed it - but we'll reconvene at her house in April for the next meeting.

We had a great discussion of Little Princes  to mostly favorable reviews.

A wonderful new member, Tina Gardner, was introduced.  Hopefully, she'll enjoy our "colorful" group!!

Sorry, forgot to take a photo....I grabbed this from FB.....didn't realize it would pull both photos.  But, I think they're great!  (Terry (her hubby) must not like some of that Japanese food)!

Be sure to check the tabs to the right - list of "other books we're reading"  and the total list of books we've read since the beginning.

See you April 22nd at Claire's!!!
