October Meeting

We had a great meeting - really fun discussions lasting until after 10PM!   Most everyone enjoyed last month's read - Bitter Blood and we had a good discussion about the real-life murder intrigue with local roots.

We missed several of the ladies who weren't able to attend last minute.  (And we didn't snap a photo while Jean was here!)

Jean is leaving first thing in the morning to travel with her husband to Galapagos!!  We look forward to some photos!

Our next read is a "Victorian Classic" - Middlemarch by George Eliot  -  a book set in a fictional British town in the late 1820's. (The book is actually written by a woman - Mary Ann Evans - who used the pen-name George Eliot because women at the time were excluded from intellectual circles).

It's a big book!   But since we typically skip the November meeting due to Thanksgiving, we have almost 2 months before the next meeting.
It's widely available - so you can get it for free to read on your Kindle or E-reader from the Gutenberg -  https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/145

The December meeting will be at Sharon's on Thursday Dec 16th and will be a "dirty Santa" affair.  So bring a fun wrapped but untagged gift to share - $10-$20 limit.

September Meeting

We did a bit of catching up personally and enjoyed Sharon's yummy lemon cake.  We had a great discussion of this month's book. We even did a quick "toast to Anna Fox" with our wineglasses.

The author of Woman in the Window is published under the pseudonym AJ Finn but his real name is Daniel Mallory.   Upon a little internet digging, it was brought up that Daniel Mallory has a less than savory history, including lying and plagiarism.  Regardless of that, the book was unanimously liked by the group.

We did pause the book discussion for a few minutes while Jenny corrected a Facebook hacking scare.  Glad that worked!

This is the only photo that was taken, unfortunately after Jenny and Betsy had left.

Next month's book will be Bitter Blood - a North Carolina themed true-life murder tale.  Written by Jerry Bledsoe - MJ worked at the same newspaper as Jerry in Greensboro as a college intern!

Location of the next meeting is Karen's house.

Check out the link for other interesting books we're reading.

Most of us have been busy reading other books as well.

Welcome to a few new members!!!

Thanks to Jenny for being a wonderful hostess!

 Next month's read is
The Woman In The Window by A. J. Flinn.

Be sure to check out the list of other books members have been reading.  You can see the sidebar on a laptop - not sure you can see the sidebar on mobile devices!

Sharon will host the September 28 meeting.

July Meeting

We had a great time visiting with each other and didn’t spend much time on the book as we collectively didn’t enjoy it that much. (The Cactus)

Per usual, Dolly had a nice selection of wines and goodies set out.  MMMMM

The book for August is “When No One is Watching” by Alyssa Cole  It is a thriller and the 125th book we've read as a club!  As usual, check out the link at the right for books our members are reading for ideas.  (This link is only visible on a computer, not a mobile version of the blog).

June Meeting

Fun meeting at Jean's house.  Unfortunately, it wasn't sunny or pleasant for a dip in the pool.....

We had a nice chat catching up on this-and-that.   And there were lots of snacks,  yummy deviled eggs and homemade chocolate cake with luscious chocolate drizzle.....

Welcome to new member Jenny!!

The book of the month - The Japanese Lover was well liked.

Of note - after next month we will have read our 125th book as a club!!

We were treated to a beautiful sunset.

More chatting around the pool.

And we all left with a few cucumbers from Jean's garden!

Next month at Dolly's  - our book is The Cactus by Sarah Haywood.

Be sure to check out the other books members are reading at the right for ideas for your next book - lots of good books there this month!

May 2020 Meeting

It was so nice to be back together again!  We're all vaccinated and met on Lindy's deck.  We all agreed that Lindy's cake with figs was wonderful.

There was a discussion of the Book Page website - bookpage.com as a good resource.

Our own member Dolly has published her new book - Mine By Design.  She has chosen Becky Moore as her pen name.  It's a romance/suspense novel.  You can get it on Kindle here - and in paperback here!

If you read it, be sure to leave a (glowing) review as it helps her sell more books!!

Dolly read us the fabulous/funny/heartwarming obituary she has written for her mother (who is alive and well).  If her book is as good as her obituary writing, it's going to be a best seller!!

Two of the members were sporting these tough Made In the NC/USA local crafter's handbags - you can find them here.  We're not trying to sell anything here - just want to share really cool ideas.

Jean will host the June meeting - come at 6 and swim a while before the meeting at 7PM!!  June 22nd.  Our book will be The Japanese Lover by Isabel Allende.

By sundown, we were treated to a lovely moonrise!

Of course,  be sure to check out the other books members are reading to the right.
